Introducing The Border Terrier What are Border Terriers? Breeders around the world summarize, "Essentially, working terriers". Not for everyone! Appealing, "ottery" expression and compact size aside, fierce hunting instinct can overpower their desire to obey. Amazingly fast and seemingly deaf when off-lead, they may bolt after perceived "prey" and not come back. Some dig. Some climb fences. All escape through tight spaces, if possible. Obviously, training is vital to their safety. Border Terriers are not hypo-allergenic! On the other hand, Border Terriers are less dog aggressive and "hyper" than typical terriers. Proper socialization renders them terrific with children. Generally healthy, hip, knee, eye and heart defects and seizure disorders occassionally occur. Routine grooming results in infrequent shedding. They perform admirably in agility, earthdog, flyball, obedience and rally venues. Natural athletes one minute and natural "cuddlers" the next as Border Terriers are wonderfully affectionate. Beautiful dogs, they carry puppy-like charm for life. Recognizing Puppy Mills |
